Glaucoma Diagnosis and treatment

Glaucoma is a collection of eye diseases that slowly destroy the optic nerve, which is often caused by high intraocular pressure. Often the disease can manifest itself with no symptoms at first, therefore regular eye exams are vital to detecting and preventing permanent damage to the eyes.

Our glaucoma service provides comprehensive glaucoma evaluation, which involves intraocular pressure measurement, examination of the optic nerve, visual field testing, assessment of the drainage angle through gonioscopy and advanced imaging of the optic nerve and retinal nerve layer.

The treatment depends on the type and severity of the glaucoma, and the main aim is to reduce the level of eye pressure and prevent the optic nerve from being damaged further. Prescription eye drops, oral drugs, laser procedures (YAG Peripheral Iridotomy) , and surgical procedures (Trabeculectomy, selected Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)) are all options that may be considered.

Even if an eye has been affected by glaucoma and the vision has been lost, early diagnosis and proper treatment can slow the progression of the disease to some degree and maintain a useful vision.
