Diabetes Eye Care and Treatments

Over time, diabetes can cause damage to the small blood vessels in the eyes, especially the retina. These changes might not show any symptoms in the early stages, so it is important for people with diabetes to have regular eye tests.

We thoroughly evaluate:

Eye exam (retina): To look for signs of diabetic damage to the blood vessels in the retina.
Fundus Photography: This is used to takes a detailed picture of the back of the eye and to see how it changes over time.
OCT Scan: To identify inflammation, fluid collection or changes in the retina.

Treatment will depend on the diabetic eye damage and may involve injection, laser therapy or other treatment where appropriate. Keeping blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels normal is important in preserving eyesight.

Early detection and prompt treatment can prevent severe loss of vision and maintain good eyesight.
